Just saw this. Can’t believe it’s gone. Loved the newest hatchback. I hope Toyota does something great with it.

I would bet my life that this isn’t true. Even just putting everything else aside and looking at the source website should make that pretty clear, I think.

I found it hard to believe too especially since they pretty much just came out with two new cars last year. I was wondering if it was THAT bad that they HAD to kill it off suddenly.

To be honest, I’m surprised it made it as far as it did. It had its unique products for certain, but in the end, it was just lingering onwards not contributing much. I know people will miss it, but it was sort of like Toyota’s Saturn, not really worth it to keep around.

R.I.P Scion, may you join the other carmakers in the junkyard in the sky.

Beat me to it! Already published my post..

Anyways, this makes me excited. I’m hoping for a more globalized (or even “interesting” or “exciting”) Toyota lineup for the US and Canada. The new CEO sounds promising.

Would you have bought a car with the Scion brand but refused to buy the same car with a Toyota badge? Um ... no. Arguably, the Toyota would be an easier car to sell. Rebadge ‘em all, and go forward.

I can’t find any other source other than Motor Trend. So very much doubt anything in Motor Trends article.

Also, is Scion only a North American Toyota brand?

A quick Google search shows that it’s only North American. I never knew that either. HAHA

I wonder what they’ll do with the current lineup of cars. Hopefully Toyota keeps the Frs, and brands the IM as a corolla hatch. Also, I’m excited to see if they actually keep the new CHR thing that Toyota plans to race at the Nurburgring 24.

I second exactly what you think. Now that it’s under Toyota, they’ll throw some real money at the FR-S and make it a real competitor instead of the best budget car. And love the Corolla Hatch idea. Maybe make it a wagon to replace the Matrix? :D

Maybe this is good news for Americans. Maybe Mazda will consider the 2 for the US...

Cheers. That’s what I was thinking. I’ve only ever heard of Scion mentioned in the U.S. and Canada.

I can’t understand why Toyota/Scion doesn’t take over the Aygo (aka Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107/108). Quirky nippy little city car.

Scion cars scream performance in any way unless you step on the go pedal. Either make it performsnce, because lifestyle isn’t really working,

Should be interesting to see what Toyota will do with the cars of the brand.

The FR-S shouldn’t be too hard. I’ve seen a few of them with GT86 and 86 badge swaps, so FR-S fans are familiar with both nameplates, so rebadging them as either shouldn’t be hard to do effectively.

The iM could end up bringing back the name combining craze of the 80's (remember the Celica Supra and Corolla Tercel?). Call it the Corolla Auris as part of an expanded Corolla line to take on Honda’s new expanded Civic lineup.

The iA could either become a Yaris Sedan like in Canada, or they could just give it back to Mazda so they can sell a 2 here again, this time offering it in sedan and hatchback form (remember, the old 2 was only sold here as a hatch, so it wouldn’t have too much crossover with it’s Ford brother, the Fiesta).

Then, there’s the tC. Perfect time to bring back the Celica, I say. I mean, the tC was an effective replacement for it, and pretty much Scion’s best selling car all this time. Why do away with it completely?

If true, curious what happens with the FRS/BRZ. I think I’d rather have Toyota kill the FRS and let Subaru run with the chassis. Low volume hasn’t really been Toyota’s thing in a long time. I’d assume if Toyota had control they would pull it from Subaru and then slowly let it die (kinda like now) and then kill it.

Either way, hope this means fire sale FRS’s. Would be tempting...

I would imagine the main limitation is crash safety regulations. Those things are not sturdy.
